Born in Kiev, Ukraine.
Served in the army from June 1941 until May 1945.
Shukhgalter fought in the 36th engineer brigade in the 48th rifle corps in the 1st tank Army on the South and North Caucasian and 1st Byelorussian Fronts.
He was awarded an order of the second degree of the Patriotic War, the “Red Star”, and medals “For the defense of the Caucasus”, “For Victory over Germany” ”, “For the taking of Berlin” and “For the liberation of Prague”.
